Don’t they just make you smile?

Update on “Witches, clowns and sirens day”

I posted yesterday about Code Pink’s weeklong protest “theme” for the Berkeley Marine recruiting station. LT. Nixon picked up on the story and had an interesting idea for a Code Pink/ Manowar Metal Death Match. It’s an interesting way to fight, but hey, he is a sailor after all. I was actually rather amazed that he posted on it as the original story was published online by Fox News.

Yesterday they (Fox News) also had an updated post with pictures from the protest. Fort hose of you who don’t wish to go the FN website to see them, here is what the cauldron filled with flowers looked like:

(Photo from Fox News, more here)

They apparently did manage to get a little bit of a response. Move America Forward decided to play along with the shenanigans.

Members of the pro-troops group Move Forward America came armed with packages of salt, which they spread around the recruiting station to keep the Marines safe from spells.

However, their protester count didn’t see the big jump this week they were undoubtedly hoping for.

Code Pink’s protest capped a Mother’s Day week’s worth of themed protests, which included days to galvanize grannies and bring-your-daughter-to-protest. The planned events appear to have done little to boost the protesters’ flagging numbers.

A FOX News camera, which has a 24/7 live shot of the recruiting center’s front door, recorded little action, and the gatherings have, until this point, been ill-attended.

That sounds like good news to me.

I received some flowers one week ago today (a close-up photo was posted in my last WW). They were very fresh and have lasted an amazingly long time. The picture on the left is from the day they were delivered. Most of the lilies haven’t even opened yet. The picture on the right was taken tonight. I had to remove the pink tulips today (they were pretty much done) but the rest of the flowers are still going strong. I’m very surprised they lasted this long.

. . . .

Shhh….Don’t tell anyone. I think Spring may finally have arrived in my little corner of the frozen tundra. Winters up here always seem like they are going to go on forever. We had a high temperature in the 70’s yesterday and are supposed to hit the upper 70’s again today and tomorrow. The highs are going down to the upper 60’s after that, but it’s definitely progress. For two days in a row now I haven’t needed to wear a coat to work!

The trees and bushes are all in bloom and even the sides of the interstate seem almost pretty. There is flowering forsythia all over the place beside the roadways in this state. Believe it or not, this picture was taken out of my car window as I was exiting into downtown Newark last Friday afternoon. You can’t even see the graffiti behind the flowers.

(not quite what you pictured for Newark, is it?)

I bought myself some flowers. They had some Alstroemeria on sale for $1.99 a bunch. I’m pretty sure they are leftovers from Valentine’s Day, but they were in good condition. At that price I thought it was worth it to buy a few bunches even if they only last a day or two. Based on previous experience, I think these will be good at least that long. I bought three bunches. I also took some pictures for my WW post. It was fun to try out the Flower Macro settings on the camera.
