Saturday Adventures

Well, not really adventures…but it was a fun day. A really good friend from work and I spent most of the day together. We work in different areas/departments at the same company but were on the same level when we started (she has since moved one rung up the ladder and I hope to soon as well). Anyway, we eat lunch with each other most days, vent about “issues” in our respective departments and are actually working on starting up a project together. She’s become a pretty good friend too, but until recently most of the time we spent with each other was either during work hours or right after (e.g. going to Costco on the way home and then splitting up).

Work friendships don’t always translate into the real world and, although this is one I wanted to see transition to more of a “real” friendship, it looked like we were destined to be work friends and not more. However, we’ve become closer over the past few months and have been spending more time with each other. Today we were out and about for the equivalent of a work day and had a great time.

I have a new hair cut from a stylist who is only one state away. She’s on Long Island, so not too far away from where I am. I think I’m even willing to go back to her which is a small miracle (although this depends on how I feel about the hair in a few days). We did a little shopping and both came home with some new clothes. It was really nice to spend a good chunk of time with her outside of work and to be able to just chat about whatever came to mind. We’re generally either much more work-focused or have limited time for discussion of non-work issues at work (that and spies are everywhere trying to listen in!).

Because our adventures took place on Long Island and we both live in NJ, there was a little bit of travel involved. The easiest route back to where I live involved crossing midtown Manhattan. Not too bad on a Saturday, but there was still some traffic both coming and going. We’re just lucky we didn’t hit the Shea Stadium traffic! Anyway, on the way back tonight we passed by Times Square. I just happened to have my camera with me and I snapped this picture to share with all of you. The lights, action and crazy people watching in and around Times Square really can be fun.
